The President and the Pope – a parody

VATICAN CITY – May 24, 2017 – President Donald Trump meets with Pope Francis, “two men with starkly different worldviews” as reported in the New York Times.

(Seated at a small table)-

Pope Francis: Welcome Mr. President. I have a gift for you.

President Trump: Thanks, Francis. What is it?

Pope: It’s a copy of my very influential encyclical on preserving the environment.

Trump: That’s nice, but what’s that got to do with the United States?

Pope: We don’t want you to pull out of the Paris climate accord meeting.

Trump: Why not?

Pope: America is such a great and generous country…

Trump: Whoa! Wait a minute, Frank. Are you passing the collection plate to me?

Pope: I wouldn’t put it that way. But if you withdraw from the accord you would damage America’s credibility and hurt your ability to achieve other parts of your agenda.

Trump: I don’t see it that way. I’m not president of the world, just the U.S. Besides I’m not authorized to hand out our people’s money to other countries. We live in a sovereign nation under a Constitution, not a dictatorship. My agenda is to put America first and make it great again.

Pope: You know I don’t approve of nationalism. We are all of one world.

Trump: Well, that makes us even—I don’t approve of environmentalism, especially the bigly flawed theory that people are warming the climate leading to catastrophic weather conditions.

Pope: Then, we must agree to disagree on that. I have another gift, a medallion engraved with the image of an olive tree—a symbol of peace.

Trump: We can use peace.

Pope: It is with all hope that you may become an olive tree to make peace.

Trump: Thanks, Frank. I won’t forget what you said.
