Distorted perceptions and destructive behavior

They’re called liberals, leftists, progressives, socialists and Marxists but they have a commonality: in the radical form they are mentally ill. Their “distortions of the normal ability to reason can only be understood as the product of psychopathology.” So writes Dr. Lyle H. Rossiter Jr. a forensic psychiatrist and author.

In an excerpt from his book, “The Liberal  Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness,” published in the May 2016 issue of Whistleblower magazine, Dr. Rossiter observes that liberal “social policies and the passions that drive them contradict all that is rational in human relating, and they are therefore irrational in themselves.

“So extravagant are the patterns of thinking, emoting, behaving, and relating that characterize the liberal mind that its relentless protests and demands become understandable only as disorders of the psyche.”

Rossiter notes that modern liberals reveal their true characters (“including his madness”) in their passions and what they value and devalue. Most revealing are values revered by normal traditional Americans that liberals reject:

__ the individual being the ultimate economic, social and political unit.

__ idealizing liberty and the structure of law and order.

__ defending the rights of property and contract.

__ aspiring to ideals of authentic autonomy and mutuality.

__ preaching an ethic of self-reliance and self-determination.

__ praising courage, forbearance and resilience.

__ celebrating the ethics of consent or the blessings of voluntary cooperation.

__ advocating moral rectitude.

__ understanding the critical role of morality in human relating.

These people do not comprehend competence, appreciate its importance or analyze the conditions and institutions that promote its achievement. They do not understand or even recognize personal sovereignty or the necessity of imposing limits on state coercion. They don’t celebrate the unselfishness of private charity. They never learn from history’s lessons about the evils of collectivism.

Irrational liberal minds obsess in a worldview of pity, sorrow, neediness, misfortune and poverty. They are suspicious, mistrustful and angry over exploitation, discrimination, victimization, alienation and injustice. They identify victim groups and portray them as poor, weak, sick, wronged, cheated, oppressed, disenfranchised and exploited.

The distorted liberal mind doesn’t comprehend that individuals are responsible for their problems; that their “agonies” are attributable to failings or faults of their own: making poor choices, bad habits, faulty judgment, wishful thinking, lack of ambition, low frustration tolerance, mental illness, defect in character, failure to plan for the future or learn from experience.

In the liberal irrational worldview all the suffering, pain and anxiety they conjure results from social conditions that they demand government fix: “poverty, disease, war, ignorance, unemployment, racial prejudice, ethnic and gender discrimination, modern technology, capitalism, globalization and imperialism”—predations inflicted on innocent victims.

The answer to all the never ending liberal grievances: have massive, authoritarian government regulate and mange all of society by “redistributive caretaking.”

The distorted liberal mentality that government must rescue people from their presumed wretched lives results in predictable destructive policies: denial of personal responsibility, self-pity and other pity, government dependency, sexual indulgence, rationalizes violence, excuses financial obligations, justifies theft, ignores rudeness, prescribes complaining and blaming, denigrates marriage and family, legalizes all abortions, defies religious and social tradition, declares inequality unjust, and rebels against the duties of citizenship.

Based on this rational analysis of the liberal mind, the evidence shows that liberalism is, indeed, a mental disorder. Of course, in the entire population of liberals individuals vary in degree of irrationality. But it’s clear that those who persist with these distorted perceptions and destructive behavior are mentally disturbed.
