“Far right” confused with Nazis far left and Islamist facism

A Washington Post story by Anthony Faiola (link below) titled, “Far right gains traction in Germany.” It told about a growing number of German citizens who oppose increasing Muslim immigration in weekly rallies of a group called “Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West,” known as “Pegida.” Later in the article Mr. Faiola writes, in Germany “memories still run deep about what happened the last time the far right held sway in Europe”—a blatantly wrong statement.

Faiola easily writes to mislead readers about what generates these rallies, but he shows an abysmal ignorance of history. The Nazis, to whom he refers, were far leftists much akin to the less virulent (so far) form of democrat socialists here in America—but just as potentially dangerous to our relatively free society.

Technically, the Nazis were the National Socialist Party. They were extreme leftists. Modern American conservatives are polar opposites, although the left-leaning press often leads us to believe they are similar. In fact, the Nazis competed for people with a communist mentality; thus the two totalitarian ideologies often clashed.

As to the current German situation, why are citizens in ten cities there (including many in Great Britain, France, the Netherlands, Hungary and Greece) “negative” on Muslim immigration? Faiola blithely concludes that the recent Pegida movement “has seemed to tap into a hidden vein of German angst.” Really?

Could it have something to do with recent murderous Muslim attacks on French citizens and in other European countries? Might it be because Islam is the fastest growing religion in Europe? How about the fact that most Muslims don’t want to assimilate into Western culture? Or, that they don’t respect Western laws and expect barbaric Sharia laws to replace them? Maybe it’s a small matter regarding Islamists’ demands that “infidels” submit or die? It might have something to do with the government allowing 200,000 people from Muslim countries “asylum” into Germany last year.

No matter. Faiola states that we North Americans have a “significantly higher level of tolerance” for Muslims than Europeans. Is that because Europeans belatedly realize the Islamist threat after seeing the evil that results from their irresponsible “tolerance,” and that our government officials refuse to acknowledge that it exists?

Ultimately, it won’t matter whether we are “right” or “left” because if we allow Islamism to prevail in Western cultures these people will never give up their crusade to implement Islamic values in all aspects of our lives. In Arabic islam means submission; aslama, to surrender or resign oneself. Freedom can’t exist in that context.
