HUMAN EVENTS | Marc Morano publisher of Climate Depot (link) reports that “The level of carbon dioxide, a trace essential gas in the atmosphere that humans exhale from our mouths, has come very close to reaching the ‘symbolic’ 400 parts per million (ppm) threshold in the atmosphere. Former Vice President Al gore declared the 400 ppm level ‘A sad milestone. A call to action’…But despite the man-made global warming fear movement’s clarion call of alarm, many scientists are dismissing the 400ppm level of carbon dioxide as a non-event…geologically speaking, the Earth is currently in a ‘C02 famine.’”(link)
For those who need to worry about things over which they have no control, think about this: Our planetary environment would be better if atmospheric C02 were much higher than it is today. Thus, the human condition would be improved. This natural, unnoticed and essential atmospheric gas provides “food” for plant growth; and, historically, it’s in short supply, according to scientists cited by Mr. Morano.
Dr. William Happer, a physicist at Princeton University and well-published in peer-reviewed scientific papers, testified in a U. S. Senate hearing in 2009. He said, “Warming and increased C02 will be good for mankind. Further, he noted, “C02 is not a pollutant and it is not a poison and we should not corrupt the English language by depriving ‘pollutant’ and ‘poison’ of their original meaning.” (Congress should repeal the federal EPA’s ruling that C02 is a “pollutant.”)
Dr. Happer and geologist Dr. Harrison H. Schmitt wrote this month in a Wall Street Journal article: “Thanks to the single-minded demonization of this natural and essential atmospheric gas by advocates of government control of energy production, the conventional wisdom about carbon dioxide is that it is a dangerous pollutant. That’s simply not the case.”(link)
Further, Dr. Happer has pointed out that during most of geological time C02 levels on Earth have been “at least 1000 (ppm)”—and the “Earth was just fine in those times,” he said. In fact, some scientists think that “ice ages have occurred when C02 was at 2000ppm to as high as 8000ppm.” The latest one in North America retreated only about 12,000 years ago.
Green plants synthesize carbohydrates from C02 and release oxygen in the process; more carbon dioxide, more food produced and more oxygen available. Based on the low level of C02 in Earth’s atmosphere shouldn’t we hope that it increases so we can benefit from its production? Dr. Lubos Motl, formerly a physicist at Harvard University, has said: “Humanitarian orgs should work hard to help mankind to increase the C02 concentration.”
Of course activist environmentalists and their cohorts aren’t humanitarians; they operate with deception and totalitarian zealotry to try to force us to conform to their meddling vision.
